Keep getting everything you can from your membership

Your events, training and resources

Your reactions to 2025 membership details in yesterday’s Members’ Connection Hour were brilliant. Thank you so much! If you joined us you’ll be getting more detailed information about Place Insight this afternoon.

Missed yesterday’s call? Want to join in the enthusiasm about Place Insight? More meetings are scheduled for 1pm on Fridays 29 November and 13 December.

Details about next year’s membership package are being sent to your organisations now. Make sure you’re getting everything you can from and with Socitm now and next year. We’re of course happy to arrange individual meetings with you or your leadership teams. Or invite us to your meeting! If you’d prefer any of these let us know and we’ll get that sorted out.

This week there’s a top 6 of useful/interesting things for you

  1. You’re running out of time and spaces to join the Place-based Leadership course in Manchester on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November.
Taking part will broaden your ambitions and perspectives for you and your place.
  2. My pick of the events list this week is the LGA AI Technology Innovation Showcase [hybrid/London] The showcase is bringing together councils and vendors to explore practical AI and smart tech applications. Scroll to the bottom for more info 🙂
  3. A new MHCLG blog post: What might a Policy Standard in government look like?
  4. Don’t forget your free 90-minute training workshop: Simplify Your Tasks: Copilot Basics for Microsoft 365 Users. They’re running on Wednesday 6 November and Wednesday 4 December.
  5. ICYMI Our colleagues at PUBLIC have updated and published their Evaluating Digital Projects: Evaluation Methods Guidebook. It’s focused on the technical methods of evaluating your digital and technology projects.
Let us and/or them your thoughts about it.
  6. techUK’s local government procurement survey is open for another couple of weeks. Their Local Public Services Committee wants to understand how you find current processes, what good looks like, and how industry can better fulfil requirements. Complete it before Friday 8 November.

Take care. I hope you’re able to have a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Alex.

Listen now: Using social progress index data podcast

This episode of the podcast is a comprehensive exploration of data, the social progress index (SPI), and how one size does not fit all when trying to use it in your local authority.

Central and local government veterans William Barker and Michael Green are asked questions by David Ogden. Listen to their conversation for ways to use SPI data to impact your strategy and activities.

In this month’s Members’ Connection Hour you’ll learn more about Place Insight. It’s a data tool available to members (from next year) at a member-only rate from our colleagues at Impera Analytics. It’s based on a Social Progress Index (listen to more about that in the above newest episode of the Socitm Says podcast).

I love a productivity hack. I’m always getting attracted by claims that will free up my time and declutter my brain. However, every few months I have to remind myself that the best hacks for my To Do list are paper and pen.

The most recent episode of the Amazing If podcast is one of those reminders: How to be more efficient (and effective)
