Socitm Mentoring Programme 2024

What is mentoring?
Mentoring:

  • ….involves one-to-one advice and support from someone who can help your personal and professional development.
  • …is one of a number of ways in which to inspire, inform and empower anyone to achieve their personal and career objectives.
  • …with colleagues at Socitm can be part of your individual development as well as part of a group effort to retain people.

Meet a mentor in another local authority who will listen and guide you through a wicked problem.

  • For mentors: what do you wish you’d known earlier in your career?
  • For mentees: what challenge will you set yourself this year?

How will it affect you?

Both people in a mentoring relationship can impact the other in such a direct way. Exactly how, will only become clear once you’re doing it.

… I was lucky enough to be mentored by Nadira Hussain, who is the Chief Executive at Socitm, and I found [it] to be really enlightening. Nadira helped me to recognise my skillset and qualities and the strengths that I bring to my organisation. I’d strongly encourage anyone to get involved in the coaching and mentoring programme….

What’s happening and when?

  1. The whole programme is underway. You can volunteer to join at anytime.
Watch/listen to Aidan Matthews and Zoe Lewis (CEO of The Leadership Coaches) talk about The Magic of Mentoring.
For ease of viewing, the recording is divided into easy to navigate chapters, with subtitles and transcript available via the video player toolbar.
  2. The time commitment: up to 6 hourly meetings between now and November 2024.
  3. The type of conversations and challenges that you can set each other will be unique to you and your mentor/mentee.
It is a little step into the unknown and it could be tricky at first. But you’ll be fine and we’re here to support you both if/as necessary.
  4. Join Alumni Day online on Thursday 28 November. Save that date in your calendar – registration will open soon.
