      only on the first of these 4 steps do I disagree. The leadership of local government needs to change; its not just digital capability that’s changed in some notable authorities where the culture of the business has changed – there’s not many yet, but the change is more about local government as a social enterprise than whether its digital in its style. And, as a impudent note, as the article is 3 steps, can you leave of the 4 one out?

      What a well balanced commentary Anna! I think the other key point to your one: ‘we are all biologically different’ is that we can all choose to change our habits and behaviours. As we say on the Empowering Women in a Digital World course, life is 10% stuff that happens and 90% how we deal with it. Therein lies our freedom to choose, which everybody has, regardless of gender.

      Good article Max thanks. This is a really complex problem. We need to be careful of cause and effect as doing one thing will not move us forward. In my view we need to:
      – Encourage all those who influence young people to understand the opportunity from tech: teachers; parents; governors; peer group
      – Work on the unconscious bias that we have towards girls in tech
      – Do something about the misogyny within the industry
      – Encourage women in good role models to talk about tech, mentor and coach
      – Have greater involvement between industry and schools
      – etc

      Matt thanks for sharing this, the challenge is no doubt a common one for us all. I have secured funding to bolster our cyber security defences and am about to embark on a holistic review of our current approach to Cyber Security embracing people, process and tools. I am sure that suppliers will be kicking down the doors to try and help but in the first instance if we are all faced with similar compliance challenges and are looking to make security an enabler not a blocker then are there existing resources, frameworks, contracts and services that we should be looking to exploit first and foremost before doing this in isolation? The need for me to understand risks on my infrastructure (or my cloud services) is no different to others and the opportunity to source advanced threat intelligence must be better done in collaboration. I am aware of the NCSC and some of their initiatives and these are helpful but are more detailed analytical and proactive thereat prevention tools or services coming down the line? Thanks.

      Worthy Initiative, but the timing could have been better, in my opinion. You’ll get drowned out by the GDPR noise and media frenzy for the next few weeks, until the story runs it’s course. What was it Tony Ben said about releasing stories so the media doesn’t pick up on them?

      This is a very important topic, not just because there are so many elderly that are not comfortable online, but that there are other groups who need to be considered. I am talking about those people in our society who are living difficult lives; they rely on public services, and as a group they take up a greater percentage of our resources.
      I am not sure if I missed something and I would appreciate comments in reply, but whoever said that public services have to be online only? Digital by default does not mean only digital, it means that Digital is the preferred option.
      Thats the first point. The second point is that there are services and interactions that are best dealt with face to face. I hope that this article is not saying that because people get alot out of being online, that online is the only option? They may get lots out of being online, but in many cases they can get more out of being in direct contact with someone.
