In this guide, we review some of the shared services deployed in the public sector. Local government has tended to avoid the private sector. In some cases, sharing with neighbours has been seen as a way of protecting an organisation from being outsourced to the private sector. Shared services involving just ICT are in the minority of examples. It is more usual for ICT to be included in either wider core support services sharing or a total authority arrangement.
