Socitm today (23 February) launches its Cloud report, focusing attention on the opportunities and challenges in a post Covid-19 world.
While Cloud technology is nothing new, report author and Socitm associate director Jos Creese has crafted a distinct position. It straddles neatly guidance for the public sector and what private business operating in this space need to know.
The work builds on the Socitm’s Public Sector Digital Trends 2021 report, released earlier this month. It called on local authorities to keep up momentum following the radical positive shift in everything digital in their responses to Covid-19 from March 2020.
Jos said:
“This report provides public service leaders with an understanding about how to approach cloud adoption in a post-Covid environment. It also will help the IT industry to understand better the context for cloud exploitation in public service organisations.”
These challenges are discussed throughout the report; balanced with the opportunities raised by cloud computing in the public sector and how best they can be tackled.
This theme is expanded to show how cloud solutions can support more flexible and resilient ways of working with local communities and exploit emerging technologies such as ‘low code’ application development, AI and IoT in ways that are both ethical and transparent.
Jos added:
“There are challenges, some of which are particularly relevant to the public sector. For example where protecting vulnerable people and specialist services can make cloud adoption more challenging, so this report offers practical guidance to support that journey.”
