Making the most of Socitm learning

As an organisation, Socitm is dedicated to supporting the providers of local public services. We understand that you and all the members come from diverse backgrounds and have varied professional aspirations.

The training calendar is a key component of the support offered to those working diligently to support their communities.

Each membership organisation has Leadership Academy points (starting with 4 for Essential packages which rises to 16 for Executive Members). Each type of training you take part in uses up these points – from 0 to 4 per programme or workshop. It’s up to you how to spend them in your membership/calendar year.

When you register for any form of training you will need to make sure your Main Member is in the loop – so they can keep an eye on exactly how many points your organisation has access to. If you run out of points you can purchase more or upgrade (to get even more as well as your points).

  1. Tailored training programmes:
We recognise that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to training. That’s why the annual calendar offers you and your colleagues a mix of workshops (starting from 1 half day) and lengthy training programmes (up to 3 months). This flexibility allows you to choose the learning format that best suits your schedule and requirements. Whether you prefer short, focused workshops or more in-depth training sessions, we have options to support what works for you.
  2. Support for you whatever and wherever your career is now
Not everyone aspires to be a leader all the time, and that’s fine. Your Socitm training is for everyone, at all career stages and aspirations. Whether you’re aiming for a leadership role or wish to excel in your current position, our diverse range of workshops and training initiatives has something for everyone.
  3. Leadership development:
Nonetheless, there is a strong emphasis on leadership development. Socitm’s programmes are designed to nurture leadership skills and qualities, even if you don’t currently hold a leadership position. We believe that effective leadership benefits not only individuals but also entire organisations and communities.
  4. Stay current with up-to-date theories:
The people who create and deliver your training stay informed about the latest theories and practices. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting in the field, our workshops and training programs will keep you on the cutting edge of knowledge.
  5. Sharing best practice:
Learning from the experiences of others is a powerful way to improve your own skills and services. Our training sessions provide a platform for members to share their best practices, success stories, and challenges faced. This collaborative environment fosters a sense of community and allows you to tap into the collective wisdom of your peers.

Whether the Leadership Academy learning and development workshop or programme is online or in person, you’ve got networking opportunities. Building connections with fellow professionals, both within and outside your field, can open doors to collaboration, mentorship, and career advancement.

At the core of Socitm’s mission is a commitment to supporting those who work tirelessly to provide local public services. By participating in our training programs, you not only invest in your own professional growth but also contribute to the betterment of your community. The skills and knowledge you acquire directly translate into improved services for the people you serve.

Together, we can continue to improve and enhance the services our communities depend on.
