Modernising ICT service delivery

Local meetings are held several times a year in each region for our members to connect and engage with each other. It gives our members a chance to see what other authorities are working on or even having challenges within their council and discuss topics that are current.

The meetings begin over coffee and also include lunch… Free food and drink – what more could you want? If you have a topic that you think would be interesting to discuss or you would like to find out more send your suggestions through to us at hello@socitm.net

Oliver Emberton, Managing Director at Silktide  

Socitm is excited to introduce our new website accessibility partner for 2020 – Silktide. Silktide will be introducing themselves and what they aim to achieve within the next year. Followed by a short Q&A session where Silktide will be able to answer any questions you wish to ask.

Whether you choose to carry on existing conversations or start fresh ones with new contacts, this is an opportunity to enjoy refreshments while catching up and connecting.

 

11:35 – Decisions and Disruptions workshop
South West ROCU  

In this immersive table top exercise led by the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit, you’ll work in teams to manage the cyber security of a fictional organisation, competing against others in the process. You’ll face scenarios based on real life cyber threats, which will develop and evolve as the exercise goes on. You’ll need to use your leadership, communication and collaborative expertise to collectively decide how to protect your reputation, assets and profit.

Also, your company is made of Lego!

The session will teach you how to effectively prioritise different technical, procedural, and physical controls that your organisation can employ to enhance your cyber security. You will also improve your ability to communicate about cyber security to internal and external stakeholders.

Laurence Whitlock
IT Director at Strata Solutions. 

Laurence Whitlock is the IT Director at Strata Solutions in Devon. Strata was formed in 2014 through a partnership between East Devon District Council, Exeter City Council and Teignbridge District Council to deliver a full portfolio of IT services to the three authorities. Through combining the IT departments of each authority into one Shared Service, Strata has helped the authorities to Reduce IT Cost, to Reduce IT Risk and to provide an IT platform that delivers the capability and capacity to enable transformational change.

Employing 75 people, Strata has created its own Hybrid Cloud to deliver business applications in a secure and ‘agile’ way to over 1,800 end user officers and in excess of 300,000 citizens.

Laurence has spent nearly 40 years working in IT, working in both the private and public sectors, and see’s Strata as being the vehicle through which Local Government can embrace the opportunities that exist for transformational change through effective use of IT.
