On behalf of the LGA, Socitm will be hosting a 2-hour roundtable discussion to explore the provision of data tools within local government.  It will primarily focus on access to Python & R. We intend to draw of the views of IT leaders from a broad spectrum of councils, ranging from those who have fully implemented solutions to those who have chosen to deny access to these tools.

Purpose of the roundtable

The insights of IT leaders are critical. The session will focus on:

  • Understanding IT perspectives on implementing tools like Python and R.
  • Identifying common barriers and practical solutions.
  • Sharing good practice and tips from councils that have successfully addressed these challenges.
  • Exploring how IT and data teams can collaborate effectively to streamline processes.

Outcomes

The findings from the roundtable will feed directly into an LGA guidance document designed to help councils overcome barriers and improve access to data tools so that data and analytical staff can leverage the capabilities of Python and R in a manner that is safe, governed, and aligned with council values.

Places will be limited so please register your interest or contact Matthew Fraser at matthew.fraser@socitm.net for more information.
