Confirmation of her Presidency took place at Socitm’s Spring Conference in London on April 23.
Nadira has both private sector and extensive public sector experience and has worked in numerous roles both at the operational and strategic level within the ICT service and the business.
Starting her career as a microbiologist, in 1994 she joined the London Borough of Redbridge as a policy development and research officer in social care, and has been in the local government sector ever since.
Within ICT, she began by supporting front-line operational projects at Redbridge before joining the corporate team. She then joined Tower Hamlets as Head of Customer Services ICT where her focus was on improving relations with the business and heading some key corporate programmes. For the last three years she has been on secondment from Tower Hamlets, first as manager of the “Athena” pan-London shared services programme, and now, consolidating her experience in shared services, in her current role with oneSource.
Exploiting ways in which local government can improve service delivery and value for money through sharing will be a key theme of Nadira’s presidency. She believes that local government has for too long been repeating common activity, customising it for the needs of local people, when it should be thinking more of sharing as the basis of achieving economies of scale that are long overdue.
However, Nadira is very clear that her number one priority as President of Socitm is to advance the prospects of women in IT, ensuring their access to advancement and leadership roles. ‘Socitm is a great platform for creating a network through which the interests and visibility of women can be advanced in both public and private sectors. I will be reaching out to a range of groups to explore what we can do to drive this forward. It is vital to the future of our profession and will benefit everyone.’
Nadira has been a proactive member of Socitm for a number of years; working with the Members Services Group, the national IT Profession Group to establish a framework for IT professionalism and has been the Vice-Chair for the London Socitm region for the last 7 years. Her Presidency provides a great opportunity for her to continue the Society’s current programme of developing services and value for both corporate and individual members.
Nadira takes over the Presidency from Nick Roberts, Head of ICT at Croydon Council.
