Back in the summer Microsoft announced that from the start of October 2018 there would be 'price adjustments for on-premises and cloud products'.

The tech giant positioned the changes, outlined in a blog post, as a chance to make life easier for partners and customers looking to make digital transformation moves.

Microsoft’s Digital Transformation Agreement (DTA) packaging and substantial price increases attracted a good deal of concern and criticism from Socitm members earlier this year. Socitm responded by contacting CCS in June. Concerns were first voiced to Microsoft the following month. CCS also offered to help individual councils with any Microsoft proposals that they were currently considering.

Since then, Microsoft announced further price increases to take effect in November 2018, generating further representations from councils to the LGA and Socitm.

Socitm, working with the Local Government Association (LGA) and Crown Commercial Service (CCS), has been engaging with our Microsoft colleagues to ensure that we are taking a lead position in conveying the issues and challenges the public sector will face as a result of these changes.

A steering group consisting of Socitm, LGA and CCS members met with Microsoft at the end of last month to discuss concerns raised by public sector organisations. The actions generated from the meeting are outlined here.

Following on from this meeting, we’ve decided that we should write to the CEO & Area Vice President Microsoft UK as we’re not satisfied with the responses that we’ve had back to our requests.

This is one of the most important efforts undertaken by Socitm in recent years. If we are to write on behalf of our members and the wider public sector, then we need your permission and support to do so.
