We’re delighted to be arranging our very first Virtual Leadership Academy Graduation Ceremony, which will focus wholly on bringing together a special and unique group of Socitm members and colleagues. We are so keen to ensure that we are developing a means of keeping our Alumni engaged and motivated and feeling a part of the Socitm ‘family’.

I have worked for five different London boroughs with 15 years at director level. I am currently the director of modernisation at Southwark Council with responsibility for HR, organisation transformation, IT & Digital and facilities management. As such I have a key role in the response to COVID-19 and personal experience of home-schooling during lock-down! My leadership style is collaborative, empowering and inclusive.I have a lifelong interest in people and how they tick and have been a workplace coach for over ten years starting at Islington Council where I studied for the ILM level 7 executive coaching course. Whilst at Southwark I have completed the Diploma in Professional Coaching Practice and became an Associate Certified Coach (as approved by the ICF) in August 2019.  As a qualified yoga teacher I am passionate about a holistic approach to wellbeing and I recently I completed a Certificate in Coaching for Wellness.

Gary has over 15 years’ experience in the IT industry, working in partnership with Public Sector entities delivering IT solutions that address the challenges facing local government. A deep knowledge of the local government market gained from working in various organisations from specialist providers to global suppliers allows Gary to bring deep knowledge and perspective to his customers.

Since joining Dell Technologies in 2015, Gary now leads a specialist UK Local Government team of 16, who’s priority is to ensure the Dell Technologies messaging and solutions are applicable to the changing needs of the UK local government marketplace.

Gary is currently a member of the Tech UK Local Public Services Committee, working alongside industry counterparts ensuring the value all IT suppliers can bring to Local Government services is amplified

Iftaz Hussain 
Applications Service Manager at City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council

I have worked for Bradford Metropolitan District Council’s (BMDC) IT Services Department for over 24 years, working my way up the career ladder from a Trainee Analyst/Programmer, ICT Applications Consultant Manager, PMO Consultant Manager to currently the Applications Service Manager.

My current role involves providing strategic leadership and management to four teams delivering corporate, business, specialist, web and digital application support service across the whole of the BMDC organisation.

I would describe my leadership style to be very agile, where I am able to adapt to given circumstance, whether I am overseeing IT project/programmes, dealing with high severity issues, working in partnership with multiple stakeholders or managing change. I have a keen interest in further developing coaching skills as a leadership style which I view essential in driving the transformation and change in delivering digital solutions, service improvements and efficiencies.

Nadira Hussain

An experienced IT and change management leader with 25+ years of both private sector and extensive public sector experience. Nadira has worked in numerous roles across London at both an operational and strategic level; within the IT service and other wider teams including digital, business improvement, transformation and customer services, and across shared services to deliver efficiencies, service improvement and ambitious outcomes focusing on the customer.

Currently as the Director of Leadership Development & Research at Soctim, Nadira is continuing to build on the work she initiated as president of the society (15/16), focusing on building the leadership, skills and diversity of the sector’s workforce in response to the impact of transformational working practices, promoting professionalism and championing women role models.

Nic is our Finance and Operations manager but, she is so much more! Her leadership skills are drawn upon by many within the team. Her background providing her with a wealth of experience in connecting with people on many levels. The Socitm course has only added to her arsenal of tools and the asset she is to Difrent.

Sam Collins
Head of Change and Engagement – City of London Corporation 

Sam began life in Local Government in 2007 as a planning officer but ‘caught the transformation bug’ through secondments to the Council’s Efficiency Consulting Team and again to the Savings and Transformation team as Savings Project Manager at LB Hounslow. Since then he has taken on various business improvement and transformation roles and is a BCS accredited Business Analyst and Prosci Change Management Practitioner. In his current role as the Head of Change and Engagement at the City of London Corporation, he leads the Digital Transformation, Business Relationship, Change and Communications and Technology Support functions – driving O365 user adoption and delivering technology enabled change.

In her joint roles as IT Strategic Lead for Cambridgeshire County & Peterborough City Councils and Head of IT & Digital for the 3C ICT Service, Sam is able to draw on her extensive experience across multiple local authorities.  In a wide range of roles she has delivered IT projects and programmes alongside a high standard of operational support for enterprise level infrastructure and multiple line of business IT services.

Sam is passionate about getting the best out of IT for maximum business benefit and lead the 3C ICT shared service and develop the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Strategy to do just that with a pragmatic approach to defining IT Strategy to deliver increased business results.

Sam has extensive experience of all aspects of people, project and financial management and a proven record of inspiring the teams that work for her by providing strong leadership and support with clear direction. With excellent operational and technical leadership skills she forms and manages relationships at all levels of the business and IT from senior management and customers to technical engineering staff.

As President of Socitm Sam is keen to share experiences and collaborate across the public sector and lead the ‘Healthy & Well Communities’ Policy theme to enable the “left shift” of intervention in people’s health and wellbeing from the expensive acute end of the system to an earlier point at the community and locality end and with citizens themselves.

Outside of work she is a keen walker and explorer of country houses & stately homes who enjoys a very slow Parkrun most Saturdays as well the less well known hobby of Champing.
