This is the final in a series of three briefings looking at commercial opportunities for ICT services within the public sector. The series sets out to ask:
- Is commercialisation really the solution to the sector’s ongoing budget pressures?
- Can the sector trade its way out of austerity?
The first briefing showed that trading does offer a potential way of generating additional income for revenue-hungry ICT services, though only for some. Overall, the number of organisations involved in trading is small, although the revenues generated can be significant.
The second briefing asked why more organisations are not taking up the opportunity to trade ICT services, and looked at some of the problems they face.
Finally, this third briefing focuses on competition within the public sector ICT market and its future potential.
